As an academic, Donald Ray Bernard began teaching International Law at the University of St. Thomas, a Catholic liberal arts university located near Houston’s museum district. He came to the school with a strong background in law from his education at the University of Michigan and the University of Texas, having earned his Bachelor of Arts, Juris Doctor, and Master of Laws at the latter.

Before his professorship, Donald Ray Bernard served as a Briefing Attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas and as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. Now retired from his work as an attorney, Donald Ray Bernard belonged to several professional legal organizations and was Chairman Emeritus for the International Law Committee of the Houston Bar Association.

Donald Ray Bernard has managed several international enterprises. Currently, he is the co-owner of Golden Stag Safaris, a big-game ranch and resort attracting hunters from around the world. Located in central Argentina’s La Pampa province, the ranch has a variety of species and a range of terrain, from open plains to dense forests.

Donald R. Bernard gives his time to charitable work and acts as a member of the Board of Regents for Angeles University Foundation, a Catholic institution located in the Philippines. Also a supporter of education, he was a sponsor of various university leadership programs.

Donald R. Bernard is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, as well as the Montana Pilots Association. He enjoys flying and is certified to fly single and multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft. He also holds a Commercial Pilot License.
